How does some free Cascadian Farm granola and free Liberté yogurt sound? Both are possible this week!

Fall is a great time of the year to switch to a hearty breakfast for those cool mornings. Of course you eat breakfast, don't you? It's my favorite meal of the day because all the choices are yummy!  Your family will love when you serve granola topped with fruit and yogurt. Cascadian Farm Granola and Liberté yogurt are a perfect, easy combination that is convenient to prepare before school or work. My favorite combination is the Fruit and Nut Granola topped with Blackberry Liberté yogurt.

If you have a hectic morning and need to bring your breakfast with you, there are these handy two part containers with a lid where you can pre portion the cereal and yogurt to transport to your destination. Then you can munch on your mid morning snack after you get settled from your commute. This #CrunchyGoodness in your morning can't be beat!

Publix New Coupon Policy Size Clarification

The new Publix coupon policy is confusing everyone, especially the stores. To clarify the new policy which starts on 10/18/14, if a coupon does not have a size requirement it may not be acceptable. Well, here is your justification that "any" is considered a size. Its a letter from corporate that states coupons that state "any size" are acceptable. Save it to your smartphone, you're going to need it.

10 Tips on How to Bag Your Groceries Correctly

As one who has a handy self bagging expert shopping with me every time we shop, I thought I'd share. DH puts pride into his grocery bagging technique, and it is upsetting to see some fellow shoppers putting crushable and squishable items in the bottom of a bag. Or for the horror - once a shopper put his warm rotisserie chicken in the same bag as the Ben & Jerry ice cream. DH has bagged thousands of bags of groceries in the past few years and he's perfected his technique.

Anyway, this is how to correctly bag your groceries.

1. Bring your own reusable bags, especially the good heavy ones with double stitched handles. It's easy to remember to bring your bags if that is where you store your coupon clutch. For most small trips you will need at least 3 bags.

2. Put the frozen foods in boxes standing up on the side of the bag. Put ice cream in a plastic bag and then place on the bottom of the bag. This double wrap keeps it colder longer. Unless of course you live in one of the many places that ban plastic bags, like San Francisco, Oregon, Spain, France and soon Los Angeles. Place lighter items like frozen vegetables and food in bags or pouches on the top.

3. If you have a stockpile freezer or refrigerator, it helps to put all those items that will be stockpiled into the same bag so you can just bring it there and unload straight into the cooler.

4. Think about where the dry foods you buy will be stored in your house. If products are for the stockpile room or for the bathroom, or the laundry room put all those items in the same bag. Put your kitchen and pantry dry foods into a different bag so they can be unloaded directly into the kitchen cupboards.

5. Place all refrigerated items in the same bag with the heaviest packed first - like milk. Put produce in bag last with heavier items like melons on the bottom.

6. Grab a plastic bag for smaller items like vitamins and health care items so they don't get scattered among everything else in your dry goods bag.

7. If you have large light items, like bags of chips or boxes of cereal you could opt for using a paper bag provided by the store (to use later as your trash bag) or just use a separate bag. Keep in mind where you're going to store this stuff whether its in the kitchen or pantry stockpile area.

8. Always put raw meats in a clear plastic cover bag that is provided in meat departments to avoid contaminating your other foods or your grocery bags.

9. Always shop so you get refrigerated and frozen items last. Especially milk which loses 1 day of shelf life for every 1 degree temperature rise.

10. Some items don't really need bags, like 12 packs of soda, large bags of pet food or gallon containers. These are easier to just pick up by the handle. If you have multiples of these heavy items, just place one on the checkout belt and tell the cashier you have more in your cart.

Publix Stocking Spree Coupon Booklet

Sign up (again) to get this nifty little book of Publix Stocking Spree coupons. If you've signed up in the past, I would recommend signing up again with another email address of your spouse or kids so you can at least get a couple coupons for a BOGO deal. This booklet will be mailed to your house next time they have this promotion.

Publix Coupon Policy Updates

Publix has updated their website to include some Q&A about using coupons. I encourage you to read this because there are some clarifications that probably will affect how you use coupons. A couple things I learned is that when you use a BOGO manufacturers coupon at Publix, you may NOT use another MQ on the item you are paying for. Publix considers that the BOGO MQ applies to both items.  Now this may not be enforced at some of your stores, but it is not something you will want to put your foot down about. Another thing I learned is that they will take a competitor coupon for a store brand and apply it to the Publix store brand. So, that means that Target Market Pantry coupons would apply to the same Publix brand item, like white bread or cheese.
You may want to print the policy and tuck it in with your coupons so you have it with you.
#Publix accepts manufacturers' coupons (limit one per item), Publix coupons (originals only—no copies), valid Internet coupons, and coupons from nearby competitors identified by each Publix store. (Competitor names are posted at each Publix store.) We will accept coupons from competing pharmacies for prescriptions only. We will not accept percent-off-items or percent-off-total-order coupons. We will only accept coupons for identical merchandise we sell. Acceptance is subject to any restrictions on the coupon, and we reserve the right to limit quantities. Manager approval is needed for individual coupons above $5.00. For a buy-one-get-one free (BOGO) offer, each item is considered a separate sale. We will accept a manufacturer's coupon and either a Publix or a competitor coupon on the same item. Dollars-off-total-order coupons will be limited to one Publix and one competitor coupon per order. The order total must be equal to or greater than the total purchase requirements indicated on the coupon(s) presented.
 Buy One Get One Coupons
Q: A competitor has a "buy one get two free" coupon. Will Publix accept it?
A: Publix accepts BOGO and buy one get two free coupons if they're for identical merchandise Publix sells.

Dollars-Off-Total-Order Coupons
Q: What should the acceptance criteria be for a coupon that states $40.00 purchase must be met after all other coupons/discounts have been applied. Not valid on purchases of stamps, gift cards, alcohol or tobacco products.?
A: Our policy states that coupon acceptance is subject to any restrictions on the coupon, so in this case we'd use the more restrictive limitations printed on the coupon.

Q: A competitor on a store's approved list is offering a $5.00 off a $25.00 order coupon when a customer signs up to receive communications from them. Will Publix take this coupon?
A: Yes. Since they have already signed up with the competitor to receive this coupon, the only requirement left to comply with is purchasing $25 worth of groceries.

Q: Will Publix accept a competitor's coupon that indicates the customer must present their retailer rewards card to use the coupon?
A: Yes. Publix does not have a reward card but would honor this coupon if they meet the other purchase requirements.

Coupon Stacking
Q: Can a store coupon, competitor coupon, and manufacturer's coupon all be used for one item?
A: No, a manufacturer's and a Publix or competitor coupon, but not both, may be used.

Q: If an item already has a manufacturer's coupon attached to it, will Publix still take an additional manufacturer's coupon on the item?
A: No. Publix will take an additional Publix or competitor coupon but will only take one manufacturer's coupon for an item, regardless of where the coupon came from.

Q: A customer has a "save $1 off the purchase of two items" manufacturer's coupon.  Can another manufacturer's coupon be used for either of these items?
A: No. When the manufacturer issues a "$1 off the purchase of two items" coupon, it requires the purchase of two items. Therefore, a coupon has already been applied to both items. This is because the customer had to purchase both items to meet the coupon's requirements.

Q: A customer has a BOGO manufacturer's coupon. Can another manufacturer's coupon be used for either of these items?
A: No. When the manufacturer issues a BOGO coupon, it requires the purchase of two items. Therefore, a coupon has already been applied to both items. This is because the customer had to purchase both items to meet the coupon's requirements.

Gift Card Coupons
Q: Will Publix accept a competitor coupon for a free $5 gift card with the purchase of an item or items? (For example, a coupon for "buy both Raid Max Bug Barriers 1 gallon starter kit and refill" and receive a $5 store gift card.)
A: Yes, the customer will receive a $5 Publix gift card if we carry the identical items.

Pharmacy Coupons
Q: Does Publix accept prescription coupons from all pharmacies or only from our listed competitors?
A: Publix accepts coupons for prescriptions from all local retail pharmacies.

Rain Checks and Coupons
Q: A customer presents a rain check and a coupon for an item. The coupon is now expired, but was valid on the date the rain check was issued. Can the coupon still be accepted?
A: Yes.

Private Label
Q: Will Publix accept a competitor's coupon for a private label item?
A: Yes, this is an opportunity for us to introduce our customer to Publix brand products.

Usually on Friday I like to post my Publix Trip from the first day of the sale but I'm not really impressed with the ad this week, so I'm waiting to get the few things I need on Saturday when the new YAB flyer starts. There is a little moneymaker on the Friskies Party Mix using the $1.50/2 MQ in this weekends 12/4 SS combined with the printable Pet PQ.

Anyway, I'll update you on the coupon game with store #685. It turns out the District Manager is on vacation until next week, so the Store Manager called me yesterday after getting my customer service inquiry about the CWS. He apologized for the rude manager behavior of the night before. He skirted around the coupon and he said he would still not take it because it was not the manufacturers "intent" that it be used on trial size packages. We discussed further and I told him this issue was not resolved and I would have to contact customer service again.

So I called customer service again (800-242-1227 put it in your phones now) and explained that the store manager was still stating he would decline acceptance of that particular coupon. The CSR confirmed again that stores should be accepting that coupon as the vendor had agreed to honor them and reimburse Publix. She offered to call the store manager to ensure he would take the coupon, and then she was to call me back. A short while later she called me back and reported that the store manager had now agreed to take the coupon. Gee, that's what I wanted in the first place.

I'm still not sure he has shared this agreement with his staff, so I expect to have resistance again when I shop this afternoon. I'm sure the product will still be there because nobody can use the coupon for it. Anyway, the store manager called me again today to follow up to ensure the CSR had shared that they "came to an understanding" that the coupon was valid and should be accepted. I told him I would be in today and looked forward to a pleasant transaction.

Anyone want to take bets on how this turns out?

How To Always Get A Target Coupon & Moneymaker Deal

There are a lot of great deals at Publix this week that utilize Target coupons (TQ). If your favorite Publix accepts Target as a competitor and doesn't enforce the "one coupon per transaction" wording on the TQ then you can get some Marie Callenders bakes entrees and its a $2.51 Moneymaker!

There is also the deal on using the $10 off a Turkey wyb 12 Kraft Items MQ printable where you can get some Philadelphia Cream cheese, or Nabisco Crackers, or Maxwell House coffee, or Oscar Mayer Bacon - along with a $5 off $30 coupon to end up with a final cost of about $4 (for a turkey and 12 items).

But to work these deals you need to have printed the Target coupons a while ago since some are no longer available at online at Target.

My tip is to not ever print Target coupons until you know you need them. To do this just go to the Fatwallet Target Coupon Thread. There are several users who will print them and upload the pdf to Mediafire for everyone to access. Just search the thread for your keyword (i.e., philadelphia) and all the posts with that word will be filtered out for your review. Select the link that has your coupon. Many coupons are reissued throughout the year so make sure it has the right expiration date which is noted in the name in the link. It will bring you to Mediafire which is an offsite download website. It is safe, I use it all the time. You do not need to sign up or join to use it. Click the big download button and when the popup shows, click SAVE and put it in your coupon folder on your computer. Then you can print it as many times as you want. There are 2 coupons per page.

Now you will never miss a deal that requires TQ's! Yeah

Trial Size Trouble

Last night we went to Publix in a neighboring community. I like going there because it doesn't seem to get totally cleared out of moneymakers and BOGO deals. I think because it's a more affluent area, less people use coupons there. But after our shop last night, I think the couponers stay away because the staff are nervous about coupons and resistant to take coupons when they realize the customer is making money on the deal. I've been scouting the clearance rack for trial size meds, in the past scoring some moneymaker deals on Zantac and Bayer with coupons that didn't exclude trial size. Just this past weekend there was a $1/1 MQ in the 11-13 RP insert for Advil Congestion Relief that stated "ANY" size. I knew there were a bunch of trial Advils CR on the clearance table at this one store, so that's why we made the trip there. Sure enough, I got 13 and planned to use 13 coupons. Along with some Idahoan potatoes, Phazyme, Sundown Vitamins there was enough overage to get some beer for our weekend trip to the NASCAR race. Except the beer was gone, so we had to ask customer service to substitute two 12 pks for a case that was on sale. They said sure, just come check out in Lane 11 when you're ready.

So we finish our shop and go to Lane 11 nearest the customer service. Here's my list:

At this point we've been in the store about forty minutes - looking for Emerald Nuts, waiting for raincheck stock checks, waiting for them to find a case of beer in the back, etc. Finally, we check out and I hand over my coupons. The cashier starts sorting them and spreading them all over the counter. I think they do this so the cameras over their shoulder can capture the whole transaction. Actually, afterward I felt like we were being scrutinized way earlier when we were in our store. They were looking at the stuff in my cart as they were trying to find me some Emerald Nuts. Anyway, I digress. She couldn't find anything wrong with my coupons so she started scanning the MQ's first and the Advil coupon would not scan. She tried to hand it back and said we can't take them if they don't scan. I said they can verify its correct use on the right product and then do an override and enter it as a generic vendor coupon. The Advil coupon has the new long barcode and no short one, so I couldn't suggest covering up the long one to make it scan (like on the CWS). Anyway, she tried to tell me is was invalid for the trial size. I explained that if it were not allowed the coupon would state excludes trial size, which it did not. So I ask her to get a manager to approve the coupon. The asst customer service manager came over and looked at the trial size and the coupon and said they couldn't take it if it didn't scan.

At this point DH and I are getting a little frustrated. I said I'm calling corporate right now (I have the number in my phone (Publix Consumer Relations 800-242-1227) and started dialing. Then the customer service manager says, I'll get the Store Manager. DH said thanks. Unfortunately it was after six p.m. and there was no answer at Publix. The Asst Store Manager came over and said the coupon wasn't meant for trial size and the computer wouldn't accept the scan. Then she points out "Limit One Coupon Per Purchase" printed on the coupon. At this point, I realized we were dealing with a bunch of untrained staff. I had to demonstrate using my products and coupons the difference  between one per purchase, and one per transaction. We had to explain that the whole cart was a transaction, but each item was a purchase. DH says to the ASM, "You know in my job just because the computer can't do something, doesn't mean I can't do it. Sometimes you have to approve actions and handle them manually if the computer won't perform as you expect. If the coupon doesn't scan and you have verified its the correct product, any size then you should take it. I'm not taking NO for an answer. You're not making this shopping trip very pleasurable."

We both dislike having to stand our ground with coupons, and if it were our "home" store we would have skipped the purchase without a fuss. But this store gave me a hard time about the CWS last week too. They act like the money is coming out of their own pockets. They also know that most people are afraid of conflict and will back down and say it's okay that you just denied my coupons. The staff are friendly enough, but its not genuine. I feel looked down upon because I use coupons there and its not a good feeling. I'm sure they don't care if I ever shop there, since most of their customers are wealthy and spend a lot more than one dollar like me.

The ASM listened patiently to DH and then said "Natasha will put in an override for you this time". Fine, we whined enough and got our way. But they left us feeling like we were wronged. I hate it when they say "we'll take it this time" - it really means don't come back and try this again. It's correct coupon use, but they don't like it. So of course, they're going to try to discourage coupon use on moneymaker deals. The store manager can do that, it's his prerogative. I'll just have to try to fly low under the radar when we go there, get smaller orders and avoid having to get "numbers" by getting fillers if my coupon count is higher than my items.
